Backyard Oasis: Outdoor Essentials for Relaxation And Focus

As a work from home mom I’ve found it very difficult to separate work from my home life. Even taking short breaks during my work day prove to be a challenge. I mean, it is kind of hard to do so when my home office sits in a small corner of my living room. So I decided to create a small backyard oasis and cozy seating spots around the outside of my home. Having these spaces outdoors helps me unplug and provides a lot more than six feet of separation from my desk. These are my outdoor essentials and how they help me stay relaxed and focused during my work week.

Cozy Yellow Hammock Chairs

My home does not have a porch, but it does have an eave that’s just big enough to hold the best seats in the house. My beloved yellow hammocks. We set these up shortly after I landed my current job, about 3 years ago, and it is easily one of the best purchases we have ever made. I made sure to place them in a calm and shady spot with a view of my garden and surrounded by plants. Everyday I sit out on my hammocks to read a book or scroll on social media while sipping on some coffee. It is the most relaxing way to spend my work breaks.  And since we put two hammocks up, my toddler (now 5 year old), was able to hang out with me too! This Hammock is from Sunny Daze Decor you can purchase this outdoor essential using my affiliate link.

Our Backyard Flagstone Patio

This is fairly new in my home, when we first moved in the backyard was nothing but dirt. But after a couple years of love and labor we created a beautiful backyard oasis for the whole family to hang out in. But most importantly, for me to work from & relax. We don’t have an immaculate set up, it’s pretty simple, a basic gazebo we purchased from Walmart, and a gas firepit we sit around and roast marshmallows in. But it’s a cute covered spot for me to sit and work while I watch the kids play in the backyard. This is especially helpful while the kids are out for summer break. We set up the pool or the water slide and I sit on my rocking chairs and work. It’s perfect! You can shop the gazebo or firepit using my direct affiliate links.

The benefits of having a small backyard oasis.

Having a place to relax in my backyard has had many benefits. But the most notable are improved productivity & stress relief.

Improved Productivity

Since setting these spaces up around my home it’s made it easier for me to take breaks during work. Having designated spaces along with set times for relaxation has forced me to take these breathers instead of loading the dishwasher during my work breaks. Taking these short moments for myself has helped me remain focused and be more productive during work hours.

Stress Relief

This is a big one! Chilling on my hammocks after work is my favorite thing to do. It gives me time to decompress before moving onto the next thing, like picking up the kids, and dinner. Giving myself time to decompress and breathe between tasks has made my day feel less hectic and reduced the amount of stress I used to feel. When I don’t allow these moments of relaxation I feel overwhelmed by my list of responsibilities, so I have learned to prioritize these moments more and more.

If you have a hard time unplugging from work, consider setting up these spaces outdoors to force yourself to step away from the computer for a bit. You will not regret it!
